Native to Australia, the Bottle Tree is extremely resilient to disease, fire, pollution and the chaotic effects of city life. It also gets its name because the trunk begins to take on a bottle shape between five and eight years of age. It stores water in its base, and if you open a hole in the trunk and press that point, you can obtain drinking water.
With multi-colored, bell-shaped flowers and beautiful fluttering leaves, the flowers eventually turn into star-shaped clusters of seed pods. The pods hold seeds inside in individual cells somewhat like honeycomb. The seeds are used as food by Aborigines in Australia.
